Parts of the Tutu/Bodice

At Southern Tutus we know better than anyone how many options there are for someone creating their own beatuiful, custom tutu. Below we have included some definitions and descriptions of the basic parts of a tutu and bodice to help you place your order with confidence!

Scalloped Edges

Small curves/half circles hand-cut into the edge of each tutu net layer prior to gathering or pleating. 

Dagged Edges

Traingles hand-cut into the edge of each tutu net layer prior to gathering/pleating.

Classical/Pancake Tutu

9-10 layers

Belle Tutu

8-Piece Bodice

Basque Will Show.

10-Piece Longline/Russian Bodice

Basque will not show. Bodice sewn directly to the tutu.

Arm Puffs

Usually used with Fairies and Princesses

Arm Circles

Can be used with any character you wish.

Puff Sleeves

Top Plate

Embelshiments on top of tutu are sewn to a top plate which is then sewn to the tutu

Hand Pleating

Hand pleating the top or all of the layers adds  more net and an extra professional element to your handmade tutu.
